McQuillan Companies achieved 4.6x ROI and over 200K in annual savings by connecting their systems. Here is how they did it.
What you’ll learn
McQuillan Companies cut manual processes by 64% and achieved 4.6x ROI by connecting their finance and project systems with Rubik. Here's how they did it.
McQuillan Companies is one of Northern Ireland’s most established built environment groups — operating across civil engineering, demolition, quarrying, and waste management. It’s a business built on operational precision and hard-won expertise, with decades of delivery across some of the region’s most complex infrastructure projects.
But like many businesses of its scale and complexity, McQuillan was running on a mix of disconnected systems. Finance operated separately from project management. Data moved between platforms manually. Month-end close required significant effort from the finance team. The operational overhead was real — and growing.
McQuillan needed a solution that could connect their systems without disrupting the delivery operations the business depended on. The brief was clear: reduce manual process overhead, improve financial visibility, and do it in a way that didn’t create risk for an already complex operation.
Rubik worked with McQuillan to implement a connected digital infrastructure built around Sage Intacct for financial management and an integration layer connecting project and finance data. Rather than a big-bang implementation, the rollout was phased — starting with the areas of highest manual overhead and working outward from there.
The implementation was designed around McQuillan’s existing workflows, not the other way around. Configuration choices were made to minimise adoption friction and ensure that the finance team could work in familiar ways with significantly less manual effort.
We work with construction, engineering and manufacturing businesses to identify technology opportunities and build practical digital roadmaps.
McQuillan’s results reflect two things: the right technology, and the right implementation approach. Sage Intacct provided the financial engine — project accounting, automated billing, and multi-entity reporting. The integration layer ensured that data flowed automatically between systems. But critically, Rubik’s implementation approach prioritised adoption and minimal disruption, which meant the business was able to realise the benefits quickly without operational risk.
Rubik works with industrial businesses to develop digital strategy, identify opportunities for data and technology, and implement the right solutions at the right time.
